Why do people gas Ridin Dirty as UGK's magnum opus?

Underground King and Dirty Money >>>>>>>>>>>>>> THTS and Super Tight

Dirty Money was all over the place...

If Jive wasn't being petty and holding back dates, that album would have gotten a push in 2000 right around the time of Big Pimpin.

Belts to Match should have been on the album.

Jive didn't want to give UGK a proper budget or really pay them for that album. That was the biggest reason it was pushed back. Jive also pushed for a "Big Pimpin' Pt. 2", which UGK was against.

Jive in the 2000's was exactly what the name suggested. Jive was huge during that era given they hada monopoly on the game when it came to Pop acts as Britney, Backstreet Boys, and N'sync were all signed to Jive. When it came to Rap and R&B though, they tried pushing their acts to conform to a certain look and sound. Mystikal was on the label in th 90's, but look at '90's Mystikal and compare it to 2000's Mystikal: different look and sound. They had Petey Pablo looking loke a Mystikal clone.

E-40, Too Short nor UGK were allowing Jive to make them conform.

:hhh:Because it clearly, by far is. I’m also of the belief that UGK never made a wack album and that all of them are classics, but Ridin’ Dirty is clearly superior and arguably the greatest album out of Texas in general. The Diary is the only one that can compete with it, maybe The Fix too, maybe.

Because not only is it the most beautiful, cohesive, timeless project in their catalogue, it’s also one of the most beautiful, cohesive, timeless projects in all of hip hop.

It’s where they combined everything they’d learned from previous albums and EP’s to perfection. None of there other albums are as balanced or perfect, from front to back.

Supertight would be the closest, but like “Too hard to Swallow” :dame: , it’s just a collection of their hardest, recent efforts just put together. Nothing outside of “Ridin Dirty” had as much depth, color, introspection, or harmony. It was the perfect marriage of effort and artistry.

Where Supertight and Too Hard were fun to listen to, Ridin Dirty played like a movie. It never got old. Through and through classic. Musically, lyrically, and thematically, It will always be up there with the rest of the other greats.

UGK is also my favorites behind Kast.

Too Hard To Swallow superior? :camby:

Super Tight? i wouldn't argue :manny:

but Ridin' Dirty is similar to The Infamous in that that's when they perfected the formula and created their defining album.

The Super Tight/Ridin Dirty/Dirty Money album run also reminds me of the Infamous/Hell on Earth/Murda Muzik streak with two straight classics and even the lesser quality third album is arguably considered classic.

I didn’t know Dirty Money was appreciated like that. I loved a bunch of songs off of it. I remember it feeling like someone just slapped a bunch of tracks together. I wish JIVE wasn’t on so much bullshyt. We saw how much UGK thrived with freedom and a budget on “underground kingz”. All those pent up ideas and pent up energy from time in jail. They really hit the ground running. Ain’t no telling how fire “UGK 4 Life would have been they had been able to be a creative force together.
