I don't think Cal gets enough credit. It's already hard af to play in the NCAA Tourney yet year after year he has to do so with a team full of freshmen. Think about it each year his team is different and they have to grow together before March. That's not an easy task dealing with 18 19 year olds who are looking to be on the first ticket to the league. Other coaches have years to mold their team but he only has a few months before the next group comes in.

It's because he is Italian. All the Italian coaches get this.

Calipari is a good test case for degrees of whiteness.

As far as a coach he's average at best X's and O's wise.

The one thing I give him credit for is he gets a lot of high profile recruits to usually play hard on defense and unselfishly. That's not easy

He's seen as a slick used car salesman to many outside of the program. Has charisma, introduces a new way of doing things, subject to be a bit smug, etc.

That said, I bet 95% of the fan bases in college ball would love to have him over what they currently have. You gonna tell me Kansas' year-to-year early round exits wouldn't have folks :patrice: at the thought of having Cal? UCLA? Indiana? Probably not L'ville, but even that's up for debate. THE ONLY AD that wouldn't at least consider letting their current coach go for an interview with Cal is Duke's and maybe UNC.

And this is coming from someone who lives in Lexington but DOES think he should've won atleast 1-2 more championships since he's been here (2009, 2011, and/or 2015). Like others have said though, it's hard as hell. Dean Smith coached for 157 years and has 2. TWO. Yeah, they've had a luxury of talent, but you gonna tell me that its just Cal's teams that have ever underperformed when they have the best 5 on the floor? How many titles does Rose-Webber-King-Howard-Jackson have?

Lets be honest, the dude seems to be loved by his former players, and appears to shoot straight with them about their game at the next level...

Got people on da coli with more respect for Bobby Whiteknights than Cal. :mjpls:

Exactly, but a coach who preaches "team loyalty" and "learning to play as a team" instead of telling his players to go get that money gets love :beli:

All these coaches makin money off these boys and the one telling them to go make their own money is the one people hate :mjpls:
