But we don't have to be. You mix a higher push for math, in addition to the arts and you get get everything from better roads to better space exploration. Not everyone will gravitate toward complex mathematics-->and that is a GOOD thing-->we NEED other people to play their part for the greater of society. But to dismiss the power of math and relegate it to only a select few, takes power away from others who could use it in other aspects of their lives. We didn't evolve the need to have a good a grasp of mathematics or not. What mattered is whether you could feed yourself, fukk and run from predators. All you needed to understand were the end effects of maths not the science behind it. E.g. Catching a projectile, and throwing a spear, is advanced physics but you don't need to understand the mechanics behind it to do either well.
There are many tribes like still around, like the Piraha, who have no concept of math, they only count to 2 or 3.
We are essentially bad at maths and abstract maths concepts, e.g. We are terrible at probability.
To an extent, that's what the internet has done.
Part of it is the way its taught..Math requires abstract thinking skills but its presented to kids in the worst envrioment for abstract thinking...modern schools are run like prisons
