I already know what lightskin looks like since its easily distinguishable so I'm not gonna speak on that.

To me the three categories are lightskin, brownskin, and darkskin. I think most would agree but I've noticed lately people tend to disregard brownskin and just lump us in with darkskin.

Brownskin and darkskin are very different. I see a milk chocolate Hershey bar as being equivalent to brownskin whereas a dark chocolate bar is equivalent to being darkskin. Visually both are clearly different than each when placed side by side so to say the milk chocolate is as dark as the dark chocolate bar is oxymoronic.

Only on the coli have I heard Black ppl pretending Brownskin doesn't exist but in real life, most Black folks acknowledge the brownskin complexion.

I see so many people on here call Nia Long lightskin when in reality she's brownskin same as Gabrielle Union.

Brownskin imo means to be in the middle. You're not lightskin and you aren't darkskin either but just in between the two.
This,
Also, I have learned that "brown-skinned" is a regional thing in the DMV, Baltimore and other parts of the Mid Atlantic area. It doesn't mean Light skin.

People who act like it's a new thing are white people pretending to be black on here Or black people from countries where "brown" means something different.

Dont make it so deep. The answer is because, its all relative to who you see around you. I call myself brownskin. Light spanish ppl think im dark, darkskin bp think im light.

Incidentally, wp also consider me brownskin. I think they be clocking us more than we know.

Yup. To me, "dark skin" = dark brown. If you're dark brown and darker, you might think milk chocolate, caramels and red folks are "light skinned"

Also, to me, light skinned = yellow(ish) + more ambiguous looking (many medium types consider themselves "dark skinned" when comparing themselves to "true" light skins)

If you fall between those 2 extremes, you're a shade of medium (this includes "reds," "caramelish," and "milk chocolates"")

^^Lena Horne is the only light skinned person in this picture, the other women are mediums

they follow white definitions

if u from a black city you know for black there is light skinned (steph curry) then brown skinned (nia long) then dark skinned (jodi turner Smith)

most black Americans fall into the brown skin category. i think dark skinned true dark skin the rarest

really i feel like there's 9 levels of color 3 shades of light skinned 3 shades of brown skinned and 3 shades of dark skinned
