I am from the perspective of assuming an afterlife exist since it's usually presented as eternal happiness unless you are in hell of course lol.

You never know when your time is up. 17 families were destroyed not too long ago. It's important to be thankful for the things you have and experience because it can all be cut short so quickly.
I believe our time on earth is valuable but that's because I don't think anything happens after you die. What I don't understand is people that believe something happens after who say this.
I'm not saying I'm not thankful I'm asking why you would be if you believe in the afterlife.

I believe you have to earn it..
Being thankful for your time on earth is being thankful for what you have to go thru to get there.
That would make sense but people usually frame it more as in your time is limited I respect your opinion though.

Plus people need that comfort and reassurance that things they do while living..
Have value and purpose..
We are all narcissistic on some levels because people want to feel like their existence meant something..
People are also scared that the afterlife is truly nothing more than a black abyss..
So we conjur things up to placate our own egos and give hope..

I think the life is short comment is - live your best life for the time that you have it, even the struggles and problems can make you into a better person. While you have time on earth you have time to atone for your sins, correct mistakes. Don’t take things for granted, Because once you die- that’s it. Your life on earth is over - no more chances or opportunities , times up. The body dies but the spirit can’t, that’s where the concept of eternal life comes in or afterlife, for whoever believes that. Your spirit can have peace or it can be tormented depending on how you lived your life.
