Why do people think Geek or Nerd = Smart?

so called geeks and nerds are some of the dumbest/clueless people I have ever seen in my life. If anything I would say geek/nerd = socially awkward if anything.

This ties into kids thinking intelligence is not cool and being dumb is.

It's perception. Behavior traits are linked to certain classifications. Like everything though it's not 100% accurate.

As someone who's circle was partially made up of these people it clearly doesn't mean that.
Though a lot of the "geeks/nerds" like to think it does.
