After the pistons took care of the lakers he left and then wrote a book

Then comes back and the lakers blow a 3-1 :what:

Then the next year lose in the playoffs again :what:

Then gets blown out by over 39 points in a game 6 nba finals game :what:

Then wins 2 chips :salute:

Then gets swept by the mavs and retires again :what:

I dont know why everybody think phil can magically turn a team into a championship team overnight

He can't. He needs a mix of good to great players. Hes never coached scrubs to anything. But thats pretty much any championship coach. Title teams are made with good to great players. Not really a secret.

Just remember Jordan and Kobe weren't Jordan and Kobe before Phil or after.

Phil Jackson coached the Bulls into a 55 game winning season without Jordan. In that season, the Bulls became a better a defensive team after they won three-straight titles. Moreover, Phil also coached a scrub Lakers team that had only one great player into the playoffs. Just like any other coaches before him and after him, Phil needed some great players to win titles. There is nothing you can do to take away from Phil because the man earn his stripes.

HE WON 11 TITLES....

He's really good at picking jobs.

These.

I don't hear people say he can fix any team. You only hear people talk about Phil in reference to teams that have stars that are on the verge. People know Phil ain't fukkin with a squad unless it has the right pieces and can you really blame him?

Phil is an excellent manager of egos. That's his best attribute. I give him mad props for the triangle but in game he really has a hands off approach. How many times did I see teams go on mini runs against the Bulls and Phil just sat back in his chair. No timeout, my boys will right the ship. And they always did.

I definitely don't think the Lakers would have won without Phil. Shaq and Kobe would have killed each other, but again, the Zen Master tapped into their psyches, pushed the right buttons and made it work.

I can't call Phil the GOAT coach because I've never seen him get inferior talent to overachieve nor have I saw him develop young players. But if I had a team full of All Stars there isn't one coach I would take over Phil.

The D (where it's so cold)
To me Phil's geat attribute outside of the triangle is that he brings a maturity to a team that is lacking it. And with most teams like the 90's Bulls and 00's Lakers that was really all that was missing and keeping them from getting over the hump and you can't argue with his results.

It's funny how that one little ability at being able to read people means so much, Doug Collins and Del Harris are great coaches and probably could go to any team in the NBA and overachieve with the roster, to me that's great coaching but they lack the whole ego managing thing and Phil comes in takes their teams and win titles which makes them look bad as coaches. They will never get coaching jobs for teams that are title worthy because of that.

That's what it comes down to in the NBA though. You have to have stars in order to win it all. There is only so far you can coach a bunch of young overachievers in the NBA. Player talent is more important than in any other sport.

All I know is that dude is trolling the fukk out of ESPN. Once they found out he was giving Dwight tips for his back issues, they did another ten minute segment of him being the next Lakers coach.

You're right you do need talent which is why I can't judge a coach based on rings alone. Look at what Thibs has done the last 2 years. No titles but still great coaching. Doug Collins got the Sixers withing a game of the ECF last year. Again, no title, but great coaching.

How many coaches have we seen that can lead a ragtag group to overachieve AND manage and motivate top players to titles. You usually have to pick one. Collins couldn't get the Bulls over the hump and when Thibs boys ran into the bigger stars we saw what happened. I would say Pop is the only guy to come close in recent memory. What he's done in SA has been nothing short of amazing.
