How many coaches have we seen that can lead a ragtag group to overachieve AND manage and motivate top players to titles. You usually have to pick one. Collins couldn't get the Bulls over the hump and when Thibs boys ran into the bigger stars we saw what happened. I would say Pop is the only guy to come close in recent memory. What he's done in SA has been nothing short of amazing.

Pop is one of the greatest coaches of all time. All time. :yeshrug:

But most guys don't get the opportunity to do both. IDK if Phil can develop young talent because I've never seen him try. IDK if Thibs can manipulate a team full of stars because I've never seen him try.

Larry Brown was a good mix though. He had some success with the young Sixers and the veteran turned All Star team in the Pistons. No surprise that he too, is one of the greatest coaches of all time.

People think that cause Phil Jackson is the greatest coach ever. 11 rings is not something you stumble across. I don't care what players you have you still have to go out and win the games.

All I know is that dude is trolling the fukk out of ESPN. Once they found out he was giving Dwight tips for his back issues, they did another ten minute segment of him being the next Lakers coach.

He has let espn be his agent the past few years. It has blown up in his face badly twice now though. Thought he was getting that Knicks job, they never called his ass, hired someone else, then he had to scramble and say he never wanted the job in the first place :skip: Then he thought he was getting that Lakers job and overplayed the fukk out of his hand  Can't wait for round 3.

:snoop:

if they brought him back, the lakers would have like $20M invested in coaches next season between paying pringles, mike brown, and phil.

and they have the highest salary in the league. so they are sposed to :eat: that much luxury tax too????

He coaches a team with Kwame and Luke Walton to 45 wins in the west and took the Suns to 7 games :childplease:

Then he won the west 3 years straight when he got some talent

Phil is an excellent manager of egos. That's his best attribute. I give him mad props for the triangle but in game he really has a hands off approach. How many times did I see teams go on mini runs against the Bulls and Phil just sat back in his chair. No timeout, my boys will right the ship. And they always did.

I definitely don't think the Lakers would have won without Phil. Shaq and Kobe would have killed each other, but again, the Zen Master tapped into their psyches, pushed the right buttons and made it work.

I can't call Phil the GOAT coach because I've never seen him get inferior talent to overachieve nor have I saw him develop young players. But if I had a team full of All Stars there isn't one coach I would take over Phil.

Why would you give Phil props for the Triangle? :what:

cracks me up how so many people act like they're worried about the Lakers cap situation.

The Lakers will suffer one season of harsh salary cap penalties. the season after next only Steve Nash is under contract.

Also keep in mind we're talking about a team that just signed a multi year Billion dollar TV deal.

Kobe doesn't even deserve an honorable mention for that season? :russ:
