Real questions for fans, critics, unbiased listeners, whoever.... Why is this guy regarded as an all time hip hop great ?
why do people throw Kanye in their Top 5 with the likes of Nas, Jay, Pac, Big, etc....

The rapper thing is hard. If it's like the way we say best "singer" as in singing voice ten we have people like Mariah Carey competing. If. We say best singer as in musician, song writer etc we have people like Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan.
So if we talk about best hiphop artist as in the one who makes the best music we could throw in Kanye. While if we talk about best emcee as we do traditionally as in how dope you can spit over beats then Kanye is really not up there. Perhaps top 30 on a good day.
Just like how can anyone throw Jada in a top 5 when his discography is weaker than the games discography. In that case they are going of straight spitting skills and not how good of a song writer or how good albums you can create.

This is true. The crazy part about it though is that Kanye is nowhere near these other guys level as a rapper and is known to have had/has several ghostwriters. I wouldn't put him in there just for that fact alone. As an MC he shouldn't be in a Top 5 but he is a sublime hip hop artist.

Best hip hop ARTIST of all time. Never been that good of a rapper but he's always come off charismatic and entertaining. Undeniable game changer. Set just as much (maybe even more) trends in culture than anyone else in a top 5.

Where he falls short as a rapper, he makes up for as an artist. I'd never say Kanye is a top tier rapper, but he's the best overall musician in a long time, and is a better artist than just about anyone In rap
