Ultimately it's all based around the belief that people who contribute more to society deserve more or better.

Also baked into the Republican belief system is preference for small government. Usually the proposals for cheaper education and affordable healthcare require increased government involvement. If these markets aren't regulated by the government, individuals and corporations can (and have been) make a ton of money off of them.
