No one cares about a metro area. When people speak about a city they are talking about Chicago proper, Miami proper, etc…the actual city. The most popular person in modern history is from Gary and not one time has anyone ever said Michael Jackson is from Chicago.

Gary is a unique case because the city had a positive reputation at one point and was doing well on its own before its downfall. Now it's just a suburb of Chicago.

If anyone is from any other suburb of a major city, they'll be considered to be from that major city. Notice how people do for Los Angeles. Even if you're from any of the neighboring suburbs people will just consider them to be from LA.

You’re missing my point breh. And that may be on me for not expressing myself clearly. But to your point, Gary Indiana is not a Opa Locka to Chicago. And just like there are people who said Migos aren’t from Atlanta because they’re from Lawrenceville, or Gucci because he from Decatur, there were people who said Rick Ross not from Miami, he from Carol City. We don’t have to agree with the sentiment but the fact that there can be a distinction made is what many people look at. Because the people that care about this kind of bullshyt don’t accept “Well its technically the metro area”. And people getting offended or bothered by a line being drawn and being on the other side of it is just as weird as people who want to draw the line imo.

I’m just here to point out that practically no one in neither Chicago OR Gary considers Gary, Chicago. So this back and forth regarding these two places is put to bed. Other arguments can be made for other cities and suburbs (and that is what’s happening now) but not these two. People are speaking as if Gary is Cicero or Dolton and it’s not.

But lake county Indiana counts as the Chicagoland area the area has a train line that goes to downtown Chicago I get what you are saying since Gary is kinda far from Chicago but it's the apart of the Chicago land area even Kenosha Wisconsin is the Chicago land area

I never said it wasn’t part of Chicagoland. Chicagoland goes even further past Gary. I said it’s not Chicago and when people are “claiming” cities, Gary can’t and DOESNT claim to be Chicago.
