Why do so many rappers cross over to acting?

Seems like musicians in other genres rarely if ever crossover to acting, why so many rappers do it?

Its crazy that every somewhat known rapper from NYC has acted in a movie at some point


I'm shocked Drake hasn't taken any movie roles since dude is a legit professional actor since he was on Degrassi

Money and the opportunity to expand their brand of course. Most rappers hustle is to become moguls and being a rapper/actor/vanity label owner of course will net you more money and commercial influence....

I would imagine rap money is touching if not surpassing hood movie money, I'm pretty sure Jay Z got far more money off of BP3 than Cam did off of that Netflix movie he just dropped.

Lets be honest here, most rappers are not in Hollywood blockbuster A list type movies, DMX, LL and Cube are the only rappers who had major roles in somewhat high profile movies.

There's little to no longevity in hip-hop...Cube did the right thing...asides from touring musicians don't make shyt, and acting is also a way to expand their audience and keep relevance. It helped Luda, LL, Cube, DMX(til he started fukking off), shyt even Fredo fukking Starr.

All celebrities act..

It's cause it's easy to give a mediocre acting performance, certain supporting roles are not very time consuming. Why not maximize of your fame?
Even Gucci Mane is getting #1 villain roles in movies.

As far as who makes the most, the biggest musicians usually make more or about the same as the biggest actors, specially today. But actors usually have a much longer career.
1 movie has like a thousand employees, while a tour/album might has like 50 and also the actor with the leading part will take about 75% of the total salary budget.
