Usually happens when the mother has no brothers, and her father wants the name to live on, or when the woman is really “modern”.

Can you expound on that?

Never heard that before about him :jbhmm:

I only know this cause my family from this part of South Carolina his is, but basically whoever owned his family had the name Vanderhaust/Vanderherst and they changed it when they headed up north

Thats why you never see a Vandross in the wild.

i had a white co-worker who added his wife's last name to his (Lewis Reed, now Lewis Reed-Hamilton)

Yeah I know a Brehito co-worker like this Salvito-Saxton-Ruiz.

He’s the type of Brehito who would send his wife a kiss through the phone in front of everyone.

If his wife ever divorces him, I’m sure he’ll kill himself.

mom and dad weren’t married then came a kid. Mom doesn’t want kid to have dads last name (because they aren’t married) so they meet in between.

The kid has his and her last name.

If she gets married, her new child will have the dads last name only.
Yep.
Hyphenated names come from out of wedlock children or prestigious families where both names carry weight.

You won't have that problem if you give ya women your last name before your child.

I only see Hispanics do this

I’m a claim adjuster

So it’s crazy when the husband name is Juan Hernandez and the wife name is Maria Ferriera Sanchez
