God is the only one that knows the level of forgiveness they need. It's not that God doesn't want them to do better because if they get to know what God is about they will understand that. We can see from this thread that if it was up to human beings they wouldn't receive that forgiveness in all likelyhood. So in the end, this is their only refuge.

There's not a lot of reliable proof that Jesus was a real person rather than a composite of several figures from that period, much less that he could do actual magic as described in whats written. His first mention in history was decades after he died.
