Trump supporters yearn to play the victim role. But they still want to be privileged. Basically they want any and everything and want it every which way as usual. And they will gladly run the country into the ground to have it or not have it. Basically they're spoiled kids. That's the way you have to approach it from a logical standpoint and from that point it will make sense. 'If I Can't Have It and Have It My Way Nobody Can/Should Have shyt!'.
If you're a white person with a high school education who was able to live a decent life and never pushed your kids to get educated, you've realized those jobs aren't there for them anymore. You see the educated within your town move away to the cities in search of jobs, taking away human capital. You see these educated immigrants live good lives in the suburbs of the larger cities closest to your town. You see a Harvard educated black president possibly followed by a Yale educated woman who didn't even bother to come visit your state. You feel that these folks will not root for you, they don't understand your concerns and live their bubble talking about STEM jobs and green jobs. Then some dude comes and talks abou how he's going to bring all the jobs back to the Midwest by negotiating the best trade deals and make America like it used to be for you. You know he's over-promising, but at least he's talking to you about what worries you most.

The election was mostly just about white resentment. After eight years of Obama, much of the white population feels like minorities have too much power and that it's time for "real Americans" to take their country back. The alt-right movement made them more open about it. All of that other stuff about "elites" and "PC culture" and "economic anxiety" is just a deflection.
My feelings exactly. People are coming up with whole blog posts in here. Talking about 'Hillary didn't come and speak to me as an uneducated White American'. That sounds better than 'fukk that Obummer and Killary Administration' I guess. So here come the mental gymnastics.
