They do that to beat whoever is calling them ugly is like how someone keeps calling you some type of name to make they know you will feel bad but when you use that name and make it your own the sadness can't get to you. The people who is calling you that as an insult will see that you won't be giving them the reaction they Are looking for or can't hurt you with the word anyone. This is one of the ways to get over your self-esteem

. However it's what you do or don't do with your appearance and personality that makes the difference. Like if you put zero effort into your appearance and are a nasty/hostile person to be around then that hurts you more in the long run. Wallowing in the ugly card gets old.

People notice appearance first but people really dislike you if you ugly and mean. Typically you can't be both. I'm not saying you gotta be over accommodating but being pleasant and civil can help the cause a bit
But attractive people get away with more so they can afford to be an a$$hole because people will overlook that

People don't have to do anything they don't want to do. My point is when you are considered physically unattractive there are things you can do to make yourself more appealing, that people who are attractive don't have to do.
Of course people are vain-if they weren't people wouldn't be crying about being unattractive and how messed up people treat them. Life isn't fair but I also don't think wallowing in the team ugly position does anyone favors.
