it's just a complicated system with different laws, different counties, different judges, different lawyers, different prior records, etc, etc. it's hard to control all those variables and make an objective comparison

Juries and Judges seem to be sympathetic towards a woman compared to a man.

Female defendant lawyer: She cant see her kids and she is afraid of her kids being in a foster home

Judge: Ok 2 years in jail. Kids will remain wth grandma.

This. I have no problem with lighters punishments/not being able to strike a woman regardless of situation if they admit to being inferior.

Hell yeah I was watching that wicked attraction show. The women be shootin dudes help rape girls/women and be snitchin gettin off. Or gettin lighter sentences. Like women aren't capable of commiting these crimes. I think the system baby them. If the woman is light skinned, the judge might go easy on her. If she's dark, she's out of luck.

A recent study, “The Impact of Light Skin on Prison Time for Black Female Offenders,” by Jill Viglione, Lance Hannon, and Robert DeFina of Villanova University assesses how perceived skin tone is related to the maximum prison sentence and time served for a sample of over 12,158 black women imprisoned in North Carolina between 1995 and 2009. The authors controlled for factors such as prior record, conviction date, prison misconduct, and being thin, as well as whether the woman was convicted of homicide or robbery since these crimes usually carry lengthy prison sentences. With regard to prison sentences, their results indicated that women deemed to have light skin are sentenced to approximately 12% less time behind bars than their darker skinned counterparts. The results also show that having light skin reduces the actual time served by approximately 11%.

The authors conclude by urging people to understand that it is not sufficient to understand racial discrimination in terms of relative advantages of whites compared to non-whites. Among blacks, characteristics associated with whiteness appear to also have a significant impact on important life outcomes.

I gotta agree. Man just here in Belgium the wife of Dutroux (serial rapist/pedophile) just got out after serving 15 years I think even though she was fully aware of what was going on and was convicted as an active accomplice to the kidnappings, murders and rapes. The thing is, and I might catch hell for this, is that women do have this victim/nice look about them, and I think that subconsciously juries/judges can't get over it. I mean even in everyday discussion, when something is going wrong in a couple everyone's quick to point the finger at the man, hell even if SHE's cheating it's because the husband "doens't love her enough".

Oh by the way, she's going to spend the rest of her life...with nuns. Religion and pedophiles, you just can't make that shyt up.

I think because we as a society hold women in a different standard. Women are seen as less capable of defending themselves and furthermore judges feel a level of sympathy toward women at a subconscious level. Outside of the that, the justice system in general is skewed in favor of women.
