Why do wrestlers think this over confident douche witty heel role works?

its overdone, and scripted promos don't help either. Its BLATANTLY obvious when someone is trying to stick to the script, like when Nash came back against Punk. Have you ever seen him look so awkward on the mic? Give the guys bullet points..that's it.

Axel to me just hasn't had that match or rivalry yet to showcase anything. JR always talks about maximizing your minutes, but if the heel is getting squashed and beaten in 3 mins what can you really maximize? How well u can lose?

WWE hasn't had a diabolical heel in a while and when they brought one back [Kane] he was fed to John Cena...anyone who becomes a heat magnet was fed to Cena, Orton and Sheamus.

Bray Wyatt has kidnapped Bryan what..twice..attacked him backstage [with metal objects] yet there's not effect to it. How is a heel supposed to gain heat when no one is ever suffering from said heel

The problem is out of hands of the wrestlers for the most part. They seem to have very limited input into their characters these days.

i wish they would just make axel's gimmick him trying to outdo his old man at everything and failing every time

for example, his dad used to win matches with perfectplex, he aint beat nobody with it
he could do vignettes trying to throw the football to himself and fukk up every time

or they could just fire him, either way is fine with me

wwe did not even know how to book perfect right.
so, what do you expect of his son.
wwe just signed him up to stockpile second gen talent.
to keep him from being a star somewhere else, and creating an alternative draw in another fed.
same thing they did when they raided roh.
so, roh tv on directv could not compete with them.
when, roh tv was the last good debut wrasslin show on a tv network.

also,..historically...

wwe never knew how to book heels accurately or develop heels accurately, either.
if not for Austin giving them the protégé of flair braintrust.
wwe would not even be operating.

Mr. Kennedy was much better at that arrogant heel gimmick. But I agree with your post. Especially for guys like Axel who are :snooze:

Why dont people wanna be heels though?

If I were ever a wrestler Id much rather be a heel, seems like it would be more fun. I think that role would suit me a lot better anyways...the boo's I would get :wow:

I think what he meant is, yeah they wanna be heels but they also wanna be "cool". They also wanna have that Roddy Piper/Rock/Flair type "likeable" shyt about them that (inevitably) ends up making people cheer them, which then leads to them being turned face... because heels aren't supposed to be cool. Heels are supposed to be a$$holes that don't play to the crowd and don't try to make people like them. Heels are supposed to be such dikkheads that they don't even get along with other heels half the time. And of course, people will cheer whomever they want these days, but it'd help if the heel wasn't helping it along. JBL worked in his heel role because he aimed to antagonize the crowd- same with Batista when he was leaving, Orton when he was at his hottest point as a heel. But all this shyt where the heels do these catchphrases that the crowd ends up going along with nshyt- that doesn't work (long-term) for a heel. That's a heel destined to get turned because the crowd starts reacting to them like they're faces.

the current booking motto is supposedly "entertaining" promo's/characters over "$" promo's/characters

The overconfident cocky heel is almost as old as wrestling num nuts

the thing that holds them back is that they arent allowed to actually do bad/evil things to the babyface because it would be bullying and not PG
this

HBK was the goat at this role . Except he backed up his words .

prob why hbk isn't gonna wrestle bryan. they're not gonna let him actually be a heel.

I think a big problem is that some heels today are more like underdogs and it kinda messes up the heel vibe. It's like Dr. Horrible's Sing a Long: first you see the villain as a heel and the hero as a babyface. Overtime you see that the hero has it too easy and the villain despite his evil intentions has to work for his goal. Then you realize that the villain despite all the shyt talking is really just a good guy and the Hoegans and Cenas are just pricks that do good deeds. In the end it just all confusing.
