Hockey isn't a accessible sport to play, I know I wanted to play as a kid, but getting skating lessons would've cost a lot for our family. Also, I think a African American prospect at forward with Crosby/LeBron hype will need to emerge to spark interest in the black community.
I don't really hate it, I just don't give a shyt about it 
The constant movement of the puck ,the blocks, the fights, goalie saves. How is that boring ?
NBA you got time outs, free throws, and other shyt that stops the game. Which is probably more boring.

I'll say it time and time again and I'm a Hockey fan but it's because in America we watch sports that are constantly stopping and going the free flow of Hockey just doesnt sit well with most Americans. It seems boring and it seems like most of the action is inconsequential.

Only problem i have with the NHL is the games in the playoffs. I do not like the best of 7 in most sports to me three is enough but i understand it is a business

GOAT sport live...i would have more interest if they hadnt screwed over my pro franchise, the Thrashers a few years ago
Hockey is one of the best sports to watch live, but i just don't think it translates well on TV. Harder to follow the puck, the intensity of the hits/weight & speed of the puck doesnt come through well on tv...
They tried to fix it with that fire trail mess but the was....a mess.

I think its alot to do with the fact its no tradition in alot of America growing up they dont see it or play it at middle school or HS...
I thnk also the fact its not an american dominated sport and its alot of weird euro sounding names that make it least marketable and desirable to an anglo american marketplace...
Back to my first point,americans dont dominate the field,if you get more americans in the game and more african americans like Seth Jones becoming stars in the sport you can sell it to a bigger broader audience of athletes to look at it as a career and in turn with better athletes playing it at its highest levels youll get more fans watching and following it...
