So a good commissioner works with the team, ownership group & finds other prospective owners. You don't let a franchise get relocated from the biggest market in the Southeast on some "oh well shyt", but then go hard to preserve hockey in Phoenix & South Fla

That wasn't going to happen unless Atlanta Spirit wants willing to sell The Thrashers, Hawks, and Philips Arena in a package deal. AS wanted to retain Hawks & Philips Arena until they sold both properties later. Apparently a ownership group that made a package deal offer for $500 Million before the Thrashers were sold To True North Sports & Entertainment in Winnipeg that was ignored. There is a reason Atlanta Spirit is hated and known one of the worst owners in North American Sports, unfortunately as long as they run Philips Arena hockey will never return to Atlanta. Bettman's hands were tied on this one, he couldn't force them to sell locally if they weren't willing to.

this past weekend 8 nikkas were drafted in the first 4 rounds

2 were drafted in the top 10

3 black brothers the last one was drafted over the weekend, a black man won the norris as the top defensive player

a black goalie went 19-1

the game is slowly changing :obama:

Hope we see a Black coach and Black GM soon.

I know of at least one black NHL agent, Eustace King.

Gary Bettman was hell bent on taking the NHL out of this market & did nothing to try to keep it here. Yet he put on his :cape: to save hockey in Phoenix :wtf: & Florida :scusthov:

fukk him & the NHL

Blame the Atlanta Spirit Group. They gave zero fukks about hockey and only bought the Thrashers to have the operating rights to the arena. They're the reason the NHL is not in Atlanta and there's no chance of hockey returning to Atlanta as long as ASG is running Philips Arena.

The Phoenix situation is a mess although if the team was in Pheonix proper instead of Glendale it would probably be different. The Panthers aren't going anywhere nor do they need the NHL to :cape:. The ownership, while they'd prefer that the team makes a net profit, they're fine keeping the team even though they lose money because the whole package of owning the Panthers and operating the arena and eating off of concert and show revenue is very profitable. The team has to be there because without a primary tenant the ownership group can't control the arena.

Shame US Airways Center was built with only basketball in mind, because they packed in well in the early years despite it looking  for hockey:

I don't know if people here hate the NHL as much as they just don't care about it because they weren't brought up watching it. I know lots of people might make fun of hockey when it's brought up, but I think that's more of a "Take shots at something that's foreign to you, just cause" type of insult.

To me, I'll never understand how you could classify hockey as boring, but at the same time I think the NBA is a snoozefest.. and the excessive amounts of scoring is what turns me away. But that probably has a lot to do with the fact I'm from a city that's never had an NBA team, and for the most part hates the NBA in general, while at the same time has a rabid hockey fanbase.
