A Study of 800 Million Activities Predicts Most New Year's Resolutions Will Be Abandoned on January 19: How to Create New Habits That Actually Stick

A Study of 800 Million Activities Predicts Most New Year's Resolutions Will Be Abandoned on January 19: How to Create New Habits That Actually Stick

Even so, a resolution isn't the problem. Most people fail because of the way they try to achieve their goals.

You're probably painfully familiar with New Year's resolution statistics, if only because you're one of them: Whether it's a small, (seemingly) easily achievable goal or a huge, life-changing goal, people tend to fail at the same rate: Approximately 80 percent of people who make New Year's resolutions have dropped them by the second week of February.

Many don't make it nearly that long. Research conducted by Strava using over 800 million user-logged activities in 2019 predicts the day most people are likely to give up on their New Year's Resolution is January 19. (Strava calls it "Quitter's Day.")

just because the day on the calendar says 1/1 doesn't mean shyt has changed about you lol.

if you want to make a change in your life it won't matter the date.

that's why people fail. it's why i don't set new years resolutions, that's not how goals that get accomplished actually come about.

Because if they really wanted to do it they wouldn't wait til the "New Year". Most people start the "New Year" off wrong anyway. "New Year, New Me" but you bring in the "New Year" doing the same shyt you claimed you were going to stop. Drinking, getting high, hanging with toxic people. Hanging out and partying, fornicating.

A lot of people attach too much significance to the “when”. I like the new year bc I like auspicious dates. But I also understand that the 1st has significance because I decide it does. At the end of the day, the date doesn’t have power but the intention does.

In short, people lack the discipline needed for
whatever they want the most

Strava is a fukking fitness app. They analyzed exercise data from their users. This shyt unscientific as fukk. Also, who don’t know this common sense ass shyt. Everyone knows most people don’t stick to their resolutions. This captain obvious ass shyt just promotion for that app

Because if you have to pick a future date to be serious about something you weren’t serious about it in the first place. Like the folk who say “Ima start my diet next Monday”, you already know it’s going to fail.

It takes a lot of willpower, and mind shifting to make significant changes. People make resolutions just for the hell of it, and don’t put the effort into keeping them.

It's annoying when the gym is filled with a massive amount of people in January

It's amusing to see them drop off like flies and by the beginning of February order is restored
