Why does Canada not have an original music genre?

Probably same reason most states in the US don't, something created in NY or Michigan spread to Ontario, Georgia, California etc. with the same speed.

Apparently, there's Acadian folk music (which is unique to Canada lol).

Anyway, (Anglo) Canadian culture mostly comes from the US, so yeah.

Reading is key.
US States, hiphop was created in the NY not Colorado or Florida. Jazz spread from Louisiana to other places.

Some might say Hiphop was created by Bronx, others NYC, NY, East coast, US, North America, America.

Canada is culturally from my understanding, just another state. At least the English speaking region.

Canada has an indigenous population. I'm sure they have some original genres.

Besides, one of the greatest and most influential indie bands of all time -- Broken Social Scene -- is from Canada.
