Where did you get this claim from?

"We welcome you to our "Where Basketball is Invented" webpages, celebrating Dr. James Naismith's connection to Springfield College as a graduate student and instructor who invented the game here in Springfield, Massachusetts as part of his work with the College."

Edit: Ok, you were right, just not completely clear about your claim. Yes, the creator was Canadian.

Reading is key.
US States, hiphop was created in the NY not Colorado or Florida. Jazz spread from Louisiana to other places.

Some might say Hiphop was created by Bronx, others NYC, NY, East coast, US, North America, America.

Canada is culturally from my understanding, just another state. At least the English speaking region.
name a US state you don't think created a music genre

Have you ever watched an old documentary about America in the 1700s or 1800s?

Go put on Ken Burns' documentary series on the Civil War.
The music was horrific.

American music, which is to say White American music...was essentially awful before like....black people created jazz.
Go listen to the shyt Bing Crosby was singing in the 1930s. Some of the most depressing, soulless, swaggerless shyt of all time.

And I get it -- music is a product of the times. The stuff your great grandparents liked isn't going to be the stuff YOU will like.
But even today you can listen to Louie Armstrong and be like "Not for me, but I get it".
Nobody is going to turn on Al Jolson and be like "Yeah that's a vibe"

they've been around forever

TF :dahell:

There are ethnic groups in Canada that have their own genres of music.

The Métis. Acadians. Québecois. Inuit etc. So Canadians do have their own genres of music.

Anglo-Canadian culture is a mix of Empire Loyalists that fled the US in the 1780s and waves of immigration from Europe (particularly the British Isles) and other parts of the world. So, there was an affinity for American music since many of the oldest Anglo groups in Canada (Empire Loyalists, Black Nova Scotians) are from the Thirteen Colonies.

Plus, especially since the advent of television and radio, Canadians have been listening and liking American music.
