Why does Nintendo reverse A and B on their controller?

That's how it is in Japan.

The X and O button functions on playstation controllers are reversed out there.


Nintendo just keeps the same button layout across the globe.

pro tip - they have an option in settings and game controls to reverse it

but on games like Mario... where you have to hold a button to sprint... it messes up how you can hold and jump at the same time
