Interestingly, I thought about this a few days ago and I'll tell you why this is the case...
Historically, Black people have never been allowed to have “agency” over ourselves, somebody has always forcibly “told” us what to do, what is supposedly best for us, and what isn't rather than allowing us to have the freedom to make choices on our own intuition. This also in a way insults Black intelligence as it plays into the stereotype that, individually, Black people are not capable of making sound critical decisions for their own benefit.
To this day, people, even some of our own, still try to deny Black folks the right to agency and free will.
See, since America came into existence, White people have always been allowed agency, y'know the free will to do whatever, and say whatever they please. White folks wouldn't stand for someone telling them what to do and not to do, because from their perspective, it's their so-called “God-given right” so nobody would ever dare to tell White folks to not exercise their political freedom or any form of right and not expect to get an earful (or worse) from them.
When it comes to Black folks, “it's do what I say”. Unfortunately, some within the community have also adopted this same mindset toward other Black people in which they view others, in this case, relating to politics, as being incapable of making the “right” choices that best suit and benefit them.
On a side note, it brings me back to one of Malcolm's speeches in which he states the White man didn't ask Black people IF THEY WANTED TO HELP him build America, no instead he said you get your ass on the bottom of that boat and YOU'RE GONNA HELP me build America.
That's a prime example of the difference in having agency, y'know the choice to do something versus being told and/or forced to do it against your own free will, as in being told.
