I have respect for the NY and the lyrics and so on but you all started attacking first and put down every area. Someone here said you actually had and artist Tim Dog say Fukk Compton. He was about to get his ass beat but 2pac saved him and got his chain back for him. I don't get why you didn't expect a backlash when NY is no longer that spot. Yes it was born and raised there but it's no longer the spot where we look for lyricism or battles. Go on telegraph and Durant in Berkeley...you still have Souls of Mischief going at the Hobo Junction crew. Some of the best freestyling I've ever seen and the future.

yeah it was fierce...it calmed down after Saafir well you know. The next generation still taking it to other levels and battling like that. Opio is the man..the one that no one really checked out. The focus was on Tajai.

It was then, in June 2010, that Krizzle hit the stage at Manhattan's Highline Ballroom, as an opening act for Jay Electronica, and was showered with boos while performing "Country Sh--," off of his breakout mixtape K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, which had dropped just two months earlier.

Obviously, take my words with a grain of salt since I've never lived in the US.

But coming from someone who's been there several times and got family/friends in the East and South, from the outside looking in, I think there's more coastal insecurity than NY bias. NY created hip hop. I think the general attitude in NY is "outdo us or be on par with us, and we'll give you props." So the acts from the other coasts that were obviously delivering dope shyt (e.g. Snoop, Ras, Face, Outkast), they got love. The dudes who weren't up to par got dismissed. For a long time, the East Coast was dominant as fukk. To be honest, NY tastemakers seem like they were giddy that hip hop was spreading as opposed to staying in NY. So I don't get this idea of "you, stay there" attitude that other coasts accuse NY of. I'm sure it applies to some NY guys but I'd argue they were in the minority. And the other coasts simply weren't up to par. Real shyt.

But as the coasts started getting better at making hip hop, particularly The South, NY embraced their shyt. Timbaland imo is the guy who really put the entire South on because his bounce is the perfect bridge between East and South. And producers out here in Toronto (East Coast-ish) loved Timbaland. NY must have loved Timbaland because he worked with their major rappers and helped define their careers.

This. And repped for that Timbo knowledge, dude really is responsible for bridging and meshing that East Coast shake with that Down South bounce.

I skimmed through this thread. I’m surprised not many touched on the actual music.

I honestly believe some of this post stems from NY projects that you seem to hold in high regard, yet the rest of the Coli doesn’t feel the same.

I’ll give you an example. You loved the Kay Slay album that came out last year. However, you had plenty of people such as myself that thought it was awful due to the poor beat selection. Is that really hating? The consensus was it was trash, yet you seemed to gravitate towards it.

In all honesty, the newer artist you listed just sound like knockoff southern/ Midwest artists. The reality is no one can do those regions like them just as no one can do NY like NY.

Finally, I do feel the perspective of certain NY artist is just different if you aren’t from NY. NY will tell you Jadakiss is top 5, yet I don’t think the guy can could put together a good album. Therefore, to me it’s just mind boggling that many feel that way about a guy more suited for a group. Many people feel that way. Fab is also very similar in that regard, but he’s been able to put together some strong mixtapes. Cam consistently puts together bad projects cheap production and poor engineering, and then come of with some of the corniest samples. Dime after Dime? Really? What kind of opinion do you expect ? The COC/Roc days are long gone.

A lot of those Ny artist (jada,fab, cam) don’t put out good albums. Their best work is with mixtapes, and you have to be a hardcore fan to really check for those.

However, if you are from NY, perhaps you don’t feel that way at all. Maybe you believe Jadakiss actually puts out good albums.

It’s all subjective.

Naw bruh....I was fortunate enough to go back to BK during the summer's when I moved to LA....use to listen to NY radio alot....they didnt play any west coast shyt until the Chronic dropped for the most part...Southern hip hop was almost non existent on their radio stations....Out West we played everything....there was a huge ass bias....

Problem is we were on a bigger stage and yall was made some of yall regional shyt didnt get play here. shyt like Prodigy said recently. He didnt understand why Snoop was mad at the Source awards cause NY loved them nikkas. And thats the truth. Think NY nikkas wasnt playin Geto Boys? NWA? Snoop n Dre? Pharcyde? Souls of Mischief? Uh no you didn't....LA and Bay area radio played everything...NY radio was not friendly like that....you heard the occasional drops from artist that weren't regional but they were getting play on mtv, bet & the box so NY had to play that......at like midnight and shyt.......if you seriously think there was no bias you're tripping...
