How do you make sense of this:
There’s The Black Reel Awards
And the NAACP Image Awards which ARE televised yearly, so if we want to support we should be watching that.
And Angela actually won THREE awards at NAACP Image Awards including for Wakanda Forever so “we” give her her flowers
And this:
Because whether we want to acknowledge it or not, winning an Oscar is a HUGE boon for an actor’s career financially and professionally.
At the same time?
You're admitting black people have their own award shows, are they of lesser value in the film industry?
Do we want to acknowledge white validation at the expense of dealing with racism is greater than independent black achievement or is it about getting paid in a system of white supremacy?
Black people can still get paid while maintaining a credible, financially lucrative, critically laudable career in a system of white supremacy while having their own independent, prestigious award show to rival the Oscars. We already have our own award shows and people in the film industry who can do what they do.
After the PhD Coli Black History professors break this down day in and day out why does the same conversation continue?
This thread is not about Angela Bassett, that's all.
