This is the entire basis of pop music though. Making a pop song is like horoscopes. Plus, he doesn't have that type of depth. You're wrong @2manyFCKNrappers. We need to stop giving people excuses for being ignorant to topics. It's like white people claiming that they don't get racism. They do, they just choose to look away. Someone who is half-black and a hip-hop head most definitely knows how black americans feel about society. If the weeknd can donate to Black Lives Matter and his man 40 can speak about it as a white guy, then he definitely has no excuse. He even complained that people have told him that he doesn't get the black american struggle and he always complains that people feel that he's not "black enough." Following his interview prior to More Life in the UK, I did a mock interview where I would ask fictional follow up questions based on what he said about race.

I didn't say anything wrong. My comment was correct.

Drake is not American, so I can see why he doesn't get involved with American issues.

All of the other companies and celebs who started "speaking out" after 2012 are doing it for the good publicity and using it to help themselves sell. I don't think that's right, at all.

Now for charity work, you can google and find some of that. There have been a few, but I don't think I saw anything very recent. I do think he supports a charity that supports people with the same illness that 40 has. Not sure though.

I think most of his extra money goes to taking care of his family and his grown as male friends along with strippers and other women he's involved with.

You wasting your time, sis. I put them nikkas on ignore.
They don't understand the concept of being
A.black and socially conscious in a racist society
B.Being a fan of hip hop in general, and the culture....and artists that are "beefing" at the same time.
C.more than a product, brand, and source of vicarious glory.

I enjoy Drakes music but the threadstarter raises a great point about the content matter in his music not touching on soxial matters that are prevelant in the urban community, whom are his biggest supporters and influential in the type of music he and his team produces in his name.

I can't hate on a dude who stays in his lane. :yeshrug:

Like others have said; He's a Half Jewish Canadian from Toronto.

Why is there a thread asking an entertainer (Not from this country) to speak out on issues (about this country that he is not from)? Drake is not a activist and he doesn't pretend to be.

If tomorrow drake dropped a single about police brutality and social injustice, no one would take him seriously because "wtf does he know about these issues?" "He's just trying to capitalize and profit off of these struggles." etc.

We live in a social media age, this isn't the 90's ,we don't need the "NWA's" and "Public Enemies", etc to try and bring these issues to the forefront.

THOSE SONGS DID NOTHING AND CHANGED NOTHING. All they did was put money in musicians pockets.

But for real this thread topic is dumb, and the only reason its keeping afloat is because its a "Drake" thread.:camby:

He attacks all those topics with layers an nuance it's a big reason why he is as big as he is

He talks about the male female dynamic from the perspective of a 16 year old suburban kid.

He's as big as he is because most Americans have the mentality of 16 year old suburban kids. Also why Trump is our president.
