I enjoy Drakes music but the threadstarter raises a great point about the content matter in his music not touching on soxial matters that are prevelant in the urban community, whom are his biggest supporters and influential in the type of music he and his team produces in his name.

So Drake should pay your bills cause you listen to his music...

I mean...he is an artist...an artist...what the fukk a song gonna do...

Like this issue of artists being socially responsibile is more about citizens being inactive in their own political life...and somehow putting the responsibility on the artist to make things better...but making songs...

Like seriously think about it...

You want this nikka...to make a song...when you could write an elected official or have a petition or some shyt and actually communicate with the motherfukker that can make things better...

If Drake entertains you...he has done his job. His job is over. He isn't supposed to be out here thinking about what the fukk goes on because that is not his life.

He is multi-millionaire...his life is easy and sweet as fukk...our lives ain't...he can't relate to us.

None of these nikkas can. None of them.

That's just the way it is.

He talks about the male female dynamic from the perspective of a 16 year old suburban kid.

He's as big as he is because most Americans have the mentality of 16 year old suburban kids. Also why Trump is our president.

Trump is our pres cause he played to the fears of the majority

Drake layered, nuance and vulnerable way of talking why still making it catchy is a major reason why he's as big as he is.

Somewhere in Chicago
and honestly, if he did you people would be saying he did it to profit off it. Same thing happened with Beyonce
I can't hate on a dude who stays in his lane. :yeshrug:

Like others have said; He's a Half Jewish Canadian from Toronto.

Why is there a thread asking an entertainer (Not from this country) to speak out on issues (about this country that he is not from)? Drake is not a activist and he doesn't pretend to be.

If tomorrow drake dropped a single about police brutality and social injustice, no one would take him seriously because "wtf does he know about these issues?" "He's just trying to capitalize and profit off of these struggles." etc.

We live in a social media age, this isn't the 90's ,we don't need the "NWA's" and "Public Enemies", etc to try and bring these issues to the forefront.

THOSE SONGS DID NOTHING AND CHANGED NOTHING. All they did was put money in musicians pockets.

But for real this thread topic is dumb, and the only reason its keeping afloat is because its a "Drake" thread.:camby:

This.

You know how many young black americans have never experienced overt racism? What he said isn't farfetched

Especially when you talk about hood folk were they are only around black people outside of the police fukking with them.

The only time I went to school with white people was in college and that was the 1st I seen some semblance of blatant racism

Give me an example of Drake's layered and nuanced way of talking about relationships.

I'm in my 30s. Most of what Drake discusses is things I experienced with my middle school girlfriend.

Please refrain from the bs stan wars I don't make drake threads .

I see people always talk about how he doesn't need to talk about our issues because that's not his lane .

Why does it have to be his lane to bring awareness when he's one of the biggest entertainers .

It kinda make those people who say he's a culture vulture right .

I say that because hip hop wasn't just built on party music and fun . It was also a gateway for our people to communicate and spread word about what's going on .

This gives me pause as to why can someone like drake use the great parts of what we build . Yet he's not responsible for the tough subjects .

Before you bring all these young ignorant rappers up stop I'm talking about drake . He's one of the biggest entertainers and I'm using him as an example .

Now I might be wrong drake fans but what charity work does drake do ?

I've seen the baseball game donation during the meek beef but we all know that was just a pawn move.

Think he also donated to some lady in Ohio who suffered a tragedy .

Apart from that I don't see anything else but like I said I could be wrong .

I just don't understand why it's ok for him to use just the good parts of our culture .

Also please don't bring up drake speaking out about the police shooting that shyt was like 5 years too late .

Jay z and Beyoncé give a lot of money to charity and they never speak on it .

Why don't we hold drake accountable ?

You don't have to agree with my post I just want to hear some valid reasons .

Point blank his majority white fan base don't want him to be social...or most rap artist...they just want to music they can sing along too and pretend they are part of the culture......and he happily obliges....I for one think dude is a sell out and a coward....but he was never part of our struggle.....so there is that
