Why doesn't the NBA have a flex scheduling option?

At this point, without Kobe the Lakers really aren't primetime TV anymore and it would be great for teams like the Pacers and Blazers to get more attention. Also New York isn't exactly primetime material either since they've been struggling. The Christmas games further proved the need for a flex scheduling option.

Wiz-Cavs got flexed out for those very 2 teams.
The Cavaliers and Wizards also lost their ESPN matchup Feb. 7, according to J. Michael of CSN Washington.
Cleveland and Washington didn’t do too much wrong to get booted. As both teams hoped, they’re squarely in the playoff race, though in the Eastern Conference, that means both have losing records.
Instead, the Pacers and Trail Blazers, who will get the Feb. 7 ESPN game, just made their matchup irresistible. Each team leads its respective conference, and though few are predicting an Indiana-Portland NBA Finals, the regular-season bout should definitely draw viewers.

Not sure how they'd handle a Christmas flex sked, though.

they do. Like the other guy just mentioned they've already flexed a couple of games and more games are going to be flexed. Schedule makers took a huge L this season. Giving the lakers and bulls all those nationally televised games :snoop:

The old school marketing model has advertisers booking time months in advance regardless of the local team's success. I don't think they are nimble enough to make in season adjustments. Also, you have to look at demographic numbers, NY and LA are prime markets for viewership.
