it's cheap too! If you get one of those old black men that used to play back in the day, get some videos off YouTube you could get your cashcow practicing now too. :whew:

i believe that black girls who are in tip top athletic shape have better speed, agility and hand eye coordination than any other race. they have the potential to be within the upper echelon of the sport. thats just my opinion. no cism against the other races:manny:

I used to play in gym in middle school (very nice school district). The other schools I went to didn't have tennis courts.

Golf or nothing. I'd rather start my kid in a sport that has little to no chance of injury, atleast in comparison to most of the others :ehh:

Dorne.
My father tried to get me into at a young age. There has to be an initial interest or natural athletic ability, I preferred reading and coloring.

equipment, coaching, need a warm weather climate to play year round or have the gwap to go to a indoor center

i don't necessarily agree with this:ld:

you you are good enough, people will support you. i think if you do well, school will notice, coaches will notice, colleges will notice. After all of that, one could possibly achieve sponsors and go pro

Playing tennis is cheap if you are not into competitions. But in order to compete, you definitely need money. You also need one of your parents to be a full-time supporter of you to be able to drive you to and from matches. Either that of they have to send you to FL where all of the good training camps are. Aside from the training, you need a coach, equipment, flights etc... It's just not feasible unless you have a lot of money and time. I think most black parents (at least mine) push more twds education or cheaper sports (football, baseball).

Also, the USTA is not just taking random people in. If you can support the USTA with fundraisers and donate a little something here and there to "support your country *wink wink*", you might get your kid noticed.

But I'm watching this Serena match and it's just a massacre.
Makes me want to put my kids in Tennis.

tennis isn't cheap....

you need equipment, location (parks and rec fees), and you need 1 on 1 tutelage in order to be great....
not to mention that it takes years to master all skill sets...
I like the idea of tennis for little black girls... along with ballet and soccer.... My baby girl (if I ever have one) will be in every one of 'em until she tells me she hates it...

Why don't more black kids period start playing tennis at an early age? The competition is too much in football and basketball. Plus, it teaches discipline.

The fukk would I look like having some old dude I don't know hanging around my pre-teen/teenage daughter all day?? :stopitslime:

Edit: As far as the tennis thing goes though, if you're going to play tennis and be GOOD to GREAT at it (which I assume you're talking about here) your daughter is going to have to pretty much dedicate her LIFE to that shyt. It's not going to be enough to just be athletic. Most successful tennis players I've known (and I'm only talking successful on college level or HS level) breathed that shyt and didn't really do shyt else, no other sports, nothing. You can find great basketball players who played football as well or split time with other sports and other activities, tennis not so much.
