The fukk would I look like having some old dude I don't know hanging around my pre-teen/teenage daughter all day?? :stopitslime:
If you look at the pro women they had a coach growing up. Thats just the way it is

Becoming a pro tennis player takes money usually, as many in this thread have already pointed out.

LOL, I know, it's just the way you worded it, like I'm just gonna find some old guy to hang around my daughter.

Ive loved tennis since I could walk. My favorite sport...the Williams sisters are my tennis icons. Love serena for her strength and venus agility the singlehandedly revived women tennis. I used to only watch men tennis.

it's kind of a chicken/egg thing. without big name black athletes, the young ones aren't going to be that inspired to play much, let along the amount it would take to be among the elite

I liked watching seles, graf, everet, arancha sanchez vicario ( I just loved her name) but I didn't love it until the two sistas hit the court...

  1. So when it comes to the world's 10 highest-paid female athletes, tennis players dominant the list, grabbing seven spots. Maria Sharapova is on top for the ninth straight year with $29 million in earnings from prize money, endorsements and appearance fees between June 2012 and June 2013.

I was pretty good at tennis when I was younger, but loved baseball even more. Quit playing tennis around age 13 to play baseball during the summer. And you're right, there were mostly black kids. Every coach I had was white though.

I actually help mentor / coach in a inner city organization that tries to introduce tennis to poor minority youth.

It's actually the reason I got a tennis scholarship to college. The biggest problems are the costs (coaching, joining local or ranked tournaments, finding local parks with properly kept tennis courts, rackets, string, etc) plus the fact that tennis is pretty damn technical. It's not very easy to pick up and play even if you're a natural athlete. Not only that but it's not really a "cool sport".

Amazingly fun sport though. A lot more mentally and physically draining than most people think.
