I feel like Dipset was the last real hip hop group and legitimate rap dynasty. ASAP is OK but they don't really have a leader or movement. YMCMB is nothing more than a label. Have nikkas egos in rap made them too big for groups? If so that's sad, because a lot of the GOAT music from hip hop was born out of group dynamics and the internal competition they bred....

because hip hop has been watered down. no one wants to make their own shyt, they just wanna copy what others have done and use the nostalgia the older heads have to get a fanbase

dipset was the last real hip hop group. they had the perfect formula and they had what a lot of other rap groups lacked.. good looks, and big enough female fanbase.

asap is trying, but its not authentic, its not genuine. i like asap, don't get me wrong.. but it comes off like they are trying too hard to recreate what dipset was (all the members are big cam and dipset fans) and work shyt other rap groups had into their sound.. they trying too hard to make a movement.. they have the female fanbase, but they don't have the charisma or "swagger" it's just like wanna be not very convincing thug fashionista.

we'll never have another rap group that was a "movement" like there was in the past. what made those groups so good is they had their own sound, their own image, not trynna be copies of other groups. a lot of the new school lack that creativity to make their own.

Too many new rappers have egos and don't and/or can't work with others cause their pride won't allow it. It's all about the culture of "me"/internet/social media generation. Everyone wants to be a star but not everyone can be one.

Groups work when people have chemistry together but can hold their own individually. Too many rappers now can't even hold their own on a solo album without a million features so why shouldn't they be in a group?

Labels aren't supporting groups cuz of the costs associated with supporting them, money has gotten tighter in the music business, and overall it's simply the era of solo artists...a little bit of ego and a bit of politics (no pop groups no r&b groups, etc)

It's much more simple then all the theories you nikkas saying, it's all about money

The money in the music biz is only a fraction of what it was 10 years ago, so why form a group and split essentially SCRAPS 3-4 ways? In the 00s, 90s, you could have a gang of nikkas all eat good because the money was flowing in, nikkas going platinum in they sleep

-People get into arguments and can't agree on songs, lyrics, what direction the group should go in, etc.
-There's people within the group that want to do their own thing OR they believe they are better than the group as a whole.
-Greed. Some might have the mindset of not wanting to split money with a group but rather rack in the majority for themselves.
-Just straight up artistic differences.

The way I see it, if you have a product that only works with all the components, better to do that, than to try and strike out on your own with something people don't want. What you are saying is like, half a car. A car is no good if it doesn't have seats or tires, and seats and tires on their own don't come anywhere near the functionality of a car. Some nikkas can do their own thing, but most nikkas can't.
Wale is a perfect example of a dude I think would flourish in a group setting. Lord knows I ain't trying to hear this dude rap by himself for 15+ tracks.
This strikes to the core of one of the big issues. I love the Wu, but there are only like 2-3 of them nikkas I can do a whole album of. But Triumph is still one of the GOAT GROUP joints to this day

Plus its way easier to spit 1 hot 16 than 3
