Why don't UNC & Duke have consistently good football teams?

-Both schools are known for good basketball teams
-Both schools have beautiful, modern campuses
-Both schools are known for excellent academics
-They have beautiful stadiums & top flight football facilities
-That state of North Carolina produces good football players
-UNC has DOPE uniforms, Duke, while not the best, isn't that bad either

Why do they suck?:skip:

UNC has had some good years, but for the most part has been relegated to ACC midcard status for life. Duke is just PURE ASS:facepalm: Stanford was once trash & transformed their program completely and now run the PAC-12. Why can't they do the same?:gucci:

All this stuff you named and you missed the 3 biggest things

- A legacy of winning. Good players want to at least to get their conference championship games.
- Good recruiting. 5 stars players want to play with other 5 star players.
- A consistent focus from national media. Good players want to know they will be consistently discussed by national media so it raises their draft stock.

Duke isn't easy to get into. UNC has no excuses. How a school like that didn't go after Lane Kiffin, makes zero sense.

Both trash universities and your points 2, 3, 4 and 6 are false and the others are debatable.

Duke has had some Decent years under David Cutcliffe.

But they seem to have hit their ceiling with him which is 10 wins, maybe a coastal division title, and then getting beat in a bowl game.

That’s a great year for Duke.

I've seen a consistently good UNC football team once in my lifetime (late 90s- very early 2000s), but I learned that college football is a little bit better and more fun whenever UNC fields threat.

Those Dre Bly, Chris Keldorf/ Oscar Davenport, Brandon Spoon, Ocatavus Barnes, Leon Johnson & Na Brown teams led by Mack Brown tho :banderas: :whew: :ohlawd:

On the other hand, Carl Torbush = :hhh:

Butch Davis had us on our way but the NCAA ended that.

We’re destined to be mediocre in football with a few good years here and there. The price you have to pay to be the GOAT bball school though :manny:

They both play in what is perceived as a basketball conference.

Recruits want to be prioritized. At both UNC and Duke, doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that basketball is #1 there.

Duke is the Vandy of the ACC. What Spurrier did there back in the day and especially what Cutcliffe is doing now there is amazing.

Plus, a lot of SEC teams play in similar regions in the south, with better legacies and history of football championships. Football is #1 and their stadiums and crowd atmosphere on gameday sway recruits heavily.

In football circles, the ACC as a whole, gets a bad rap even with the presence of Clemson and FSU. That may change with Richt at The U, Fuentes at Va Tech, and Petrino back at Louisville.
