Why don't we talk about specifically black eating disorders?

this is actually a good question...given the medical issues concerning diabetes, heart failure, obesity etc...it's definately a conversation worth discussing...

then, you have the societal pressure to look past poor diets and eating habits in order for women to become "thick" regardless of how much it fuks up your body later down the line

Gyms are typically 20 dollars a month or less and literally everything in the grocery store has their nutritional value written on it. No excuse for a young black person to be obess in 2022.
they may not have access to a gym or a gym is in a majority white area and they don't feel comfortable.
might not have enough economic freedom to pay for and go to the gym
no gym culture among their peers
they've never had a workout culture at all so they see the gym as an activity outside their interest. like what's a workout to someone who's never worked out at all? they might think they need to run and that's it. but then they'll overeat when they're finished
there are a lot of factors it's not just the cost that matters
this coming from a gymset member

I'm not concerned about the boys because sports will push them towards that. but the women need something.

good thread, i wasn't aware of this at all and went down the rabbit hole a lil bit :ohhh:

black teens are 50% more likely to have bulimia - Race, Social Class, and Bulimia Nervosa by Michelle Sovinsky Goeree, John C. Ham, Daniela Iorio :: SSRN
cacs are more likely to be/more often asked about eating disorder symptoms - https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/eat.10129
44% of doctors made an eating disorder diagnosis in case studies with cacettes who had one, 41% for hispanic women, 17% for bw - APA PsycNet

Dont believe white stats about black people unless you can see it for yourself.
