I won't fault people for not having a large vocabulary...the real issue is how African American naming conventions are used for oppression.

Nothing wrong with not being able to spell "Jae'Marqus" or whatever, the issue is when you immediately pass him up for a job opportunity, or won't call-back to rent an apartment, etc.

Names are arbitrary, and nobody gets to pick their own, so there shouldn't be a heavy stigma attached to them.

I'm at Starbucks and so I went up to the counter and this young girl asks me what I want. I told her a tall hot chocolate :birdman: I see her start to hesitate asking me what name she should put as the order, as if she knows it's about to be some nikka shyt.

Finally she gets it out and asks me how to spell my name :snoop:


I know how to spell Brittany and Stephanie, why they can't know my shyt
