Waiting until their buzzes die before they release an album...?

I have noticed that rappers are going like 1 or 2 years after their explosion on the media circuit before releasing an album...

Why are currently buzzing rappers releasing free mixtapes, and when it's time to release an album, a new rapper is now buzzing, and the fans are divided...?

It makes no sense to me...

I think if you start buzzing in January, you should have an album out by May, the latest July...

Making free mixtapes after you get a buzz seems stupid to me...

Considering the fact that you can record a hip hop album in a week, and have it on iTunes in a day....It makes no sense to wait so long...

if you're signed to a label (especially a major) it's not as easy as just getting in the studio, recording the album & then just releasing it

the buzz word "buzz" is overrated in my opinion... cats act as if someone saying your name guarantees your success selling albums.. naw, not really... and just because everyone isn't running saying so and so's name doesn't mean they can't drop out of no where and do digits...

"Buzz" is not overrated...

When every song a rapper releases sounds "hot" to the fans, and that rapper's name is all over the mainstream media, for whatever reason, and other rappers are asking for features left and right, then you know said rapper has a buzz...

If you can't push records when you are getting all this attention, then when exactly will you ever push records in this current musical climate...?

That's why I have been wondering why any rapper will sign to a major label for his first album...

I think when you have a heavy buzz, and the labels are bidding for your signature, that's when you should release your album on an independent label...

If you sell 50K first week on an independent, that's big money, and when you account for the tours and etc...You will be eating for years to come...

2) The club goes crazy when your song is played, and women at the club are willing to let just about any dude grind on them, when your song comes on e.g. 50 Cent when "Wanksta" and "In Da Club" would come...

3) All most every rapper is your friend, and wants to feature you on a song...Also, there are a million and one remixes of your most popular song...

4) You are everywhere in mainstream media, the late show hosts are making jokes about you, almost every story in the music media has some kind of association with you...

Buzz is the feeling in the air just before 50 dropped "Get Rich Or Die Trying"...Everybody could sense the storm coming...

That's buzz...

Right now, Chief Keef has some buzz and if drops an album in the next 2 months, he will eat real good (relatively speaking of course)...

He can do 100K first week now, if he waits until next year, I don't think he will see those numbers...

it means ross has no buzz. let's be real here for a second

-ross isnt living up to the hype yall swear he has, but has a nice core fanbase. he wont ever be the platinum selling artist the coli wants him to be but can do good numbers.
-meeks albums isnt bout to sell shyt, he wont get dropped but might become like gucci, mainly a mixtape rapper, dropping albums when the times right. nothing wrong with that in 2013 tho
-wale is good and will have nice sales for at least the next few albums. dont see him staying with mmg for much longer but we'll see
-i like stalley but he won't sell much more than meek, might get dropped/leave and do well indie on some currensy shyt.
-omarion poor mans trey songz. he might have a nice radio run for a year or two though.
-gunplay wont get a release date, beyond his wshh fukkery he's not a viable artist for a major label unless he cleans up somewhat
-rockie fresh knock off wiz, might have a good debut but will fall off quick, unless he becomes what we all wanted wiz to be. he's a wild card, he could end up being their top guy if he plays it right.


ross's solo music is gonna be 50 cent status soon, but he'll stay relevant if he keeps mmg together.
