Is there a single time tou haven't "legitmately bought" Obama's reasoning?
yeah...syria was a big one.

I know trade deals are unpopular, but its naive to think that when we're talking geopolitical interaction here that the US is going to throw away any leverage it has in such a deal anyways

Trade leads to economic growth.. It allows countries to specialize aka become really good and efficient at developing a certain niche of goods. Then exchange them with other countries.

If no one traded each country would have to produce EVERYTHING even stuff they weren't really suited for or good at producing. It would cost more to produce said goods and on top of that you couldn't export what you were really good or well suited for producing both of which are economic drains.

The fear is if TPP is passed among the Asian countries without the US, then those countries will have an economic advantage because they'll further be able to specialize compared to the US.

People on the center left to far left oppose TPP because they fear it will lead to low skilled/manufacturing job loss to overseas markets. Far right opposes it because it gives Obama increased negotiation power (usually congress has more oversight when it comes to the drafting of treaties). Generally speaking people who lean left (business democrats), moderates, people who lean right (fiscally conservative, socially liberal to moderate business conservatives) and center right fiscally conservative mainstream Republicans people support TPP.

Updates:

1) The House has passed the Fast Track for TPP, which would give the BHO the ability to do what he wants with the treaty
2) The Senate will vote on the Fast Track tomorrow
3) Congressional leadership is stripping away committee positions from Congressmen that voted against it in the House

I've never heard of this happening, and the fact you bringing up administrations from 50+ years ago is telling

That should tell you alot though about the seriousness of this and how they want opposition, even in their own party, shutdown ...another reason to avoid partisan shyt.... lets see if our country will be a corporate fiefdom today .....remember your opinion will be moot, cause accountability will shift to an unelected board.

What is the potential danger if we DON'T start this treaty up? Do we really lose ground like that to China? Long term are we better off? That's what I want to know. I know it all sucks, basically top to bottom it benefits corporations almost exclusively but what happens if we do NOT pass this?

Yes. China is barreling hard down on their part of the region. Look at their regional development bank

You may think it just benefits corporations, but its going to suck a lot worse when there are fewer american coporations and thus fewer opportunities for the rest of us.

You have to look at this globally and realize that if you don't elevate American interests, you really don't care about your own. (Presuming you're an American)
