if you can with 8-9 games with the SEC doormat, why couldn't he do so at Pedo State?

especially considering his recruiting ties, and the Big 10 being what it is... he should win about 10 games

Ohio State,Michigan State, maybe Michigan thats 2-3 losses right there.Franklin is a good coach but Vandy is different then PSU.

Breh, did you see Michigan this year? have you seen Michigan the last 5-7 years?

you're right that Vandy is different than PSU.... cause dude is literally taking a far better job, in a far less competitive conference.

The Big 10 is arguably the 5th best of the Power conferences currently, it's not like he's getting hired to a spot where he's destined to fail

You guys are sleeping on Penn State. They were a dominant power in the 80's and 90's. The only reason they fell off was because Paterno got old and refused to step down. Then the Sandusky case happened and they got destroyed by scholarship losses and a four year bowl ban.

If they get the right coach they can be a consistent top 10 program. The school has a ton of money and huge fan support. Plus they are located in pretty good recruiting location. Pennsylvania produces some good talent and they border New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia which produce tons of elite players.

You guys really think Franklin can take that Penn State team and win 8-9 games? He is going to have his work cut out for him.think He is going to use this job as a steppin stone until he reach a bowl or gets a bowl win and will probably bounce to the NFL.Whats their recruiting looking like?
He will have an easier chance to win 8-9....10 games there than he ever will in the SEC. Vanderbilt might be getting better but it'll be hard to maintain that consistency b/c recruiting will always be iffy.

Not to mention it's really an academic school w/ high standrds so that already hurts recruiting as well

He did exactly what you said AT Vanderbilt in the SEC. Think about that for a second, Vanderbilt in the SEC. They used to be the doormats of that conference. All he has to do is win the cupcake non-conference games and sweep the Purdues, Indianas, Northwestern, and Illinois of the conference

Penn State money is waaaaaay longer than Vanderbilt.

Plus, it isnt in the South
That's true, they do generate way more revenue and probably have much better facilities. But Vandy is a much better school academically and it's in downtown Nashville...much better than hicksville PA. That being said, I wouldn't blame Franklin for leaving.

If you're the guy who elevates Penn State while they're down, which probably won't be too hard to do since it's Penn State, then that makes you look that much better if you're aiming for an NFL gig.

Just look what it did for Bill O'Brien.
