It’s easy to say social media, but SM plays/played a huge role in it.

People see these curated posts, touched up images, etc and really believe everyone is doing way better than they are…I’ve said it before but, “comparison is the thief of joy” folks got this FOMO when it’s really, just an illusion.

Add to that, the hold material possessions and money has had on us…it always has, but the HUGE push it’s getting today, and you have folks depressed bc they don’t have this or that…they aren’t taking lavish vacations like they see what they perceive as “average” people taking…they feel like they’re incomplete bc they don’t have Dior, Gucci, Balmain, etc or stacks of disposable income to spend on real estate, cars, clothes, stunt with…

lastly, I feel we don’t appreciate the “small” things anymore. We lost our gratitude along the way. Everybody “getting money” (legal or illegal) all to stunt or buy something(s) to show off/brag about/flex on, to the next person. People whining bc they can’t take two vacations a year, go to Almafi Coast, etc when they could be happy and appreciate where THEIR money/means take them. Soon as we get something we hold it up to the next person to see how it compares to what they have, if we DEEM they deserve to have it or can they afford it.

life wasn’t perfect before social media, but it was simpler and a little bit more fun. There was some “mystery” to things…we had to actually WAIT for information and knowledge, lastly, couldn’t see that person across the country/world who we don’t know, looking like they’re doing better than us, when it LOOKS LIKE they “shouldn’t be” smh

:manny: just my take on it
