Why hasn't a Mexican rapper popped off?

Technically, its B-Real with Cypress Hill.
If you mean mainstream, there are Mexican rappers that had mainstream appeal, but were never on the popular level like Drake or 50 Cent.

Frost
Lighter Shade of Brown
Lil Rob
SPM
Baby Bash
All had top charting singles, and definitely got a strong fan base in the Mexican community. The rest of the US not so much.

The problem is, most Chicano rappers, don't want to expand outside of the Chicano Rap world and don't want to "sell" out even though half their albums sound like a generic mainstream album. There are only very few Chicano rappers, that are even good. Way too many garbage one's out there and this is coming from someone who grew up on this music.
SPM would have and should have been that mainstream or just an overall respected star. He didn't sound like a cholo rap and he definitely had skills and made well crafted tracks and albums. We all know his story and right when he was starting to make noise on a national level he got popped. It's a damn shame cuz he could spit and imo was the total package.

SPM could quite possibly be my favourite Hispanic rapper...
His voice was a bit:scust: but somehow it worked.

Sometimes his voice would be high pitched or too nasal but when he was in pocket he had a good flow. Good lyrics, thoughtfull and humorous at times. Dude had a lot of charisma. It's a damn shame.

It's mainly because what they choose to focus on in their raps. It doesn't appeal to folks other than them. They got some bounce to their step though and can make some jams when they expand out of it. Probably because they got some underdog/struggle to them so it comes off more organic.

Sadly, most Mexican rappers talk about is bangin in their music and don't expand out of that.

I can get down with Cartel MGM and B-Real obviously. Also the dudes from Fat Texas back in 99-00.

They are very swag less, are there even Mexican artists in any genre?
Selena Gomez is like 50 %, and B-real 50 % too. But let's call him Mexican for the sake of argument.
