Lemme rephrase, Desus and Mero are way too Bronx to me.
A lot of the jokes were only super funny if you live in that environment but then came downtown to talk to yuppies in the village, that have had some experience with it.
Arsenio, for better or for worse, wasn't nearly as "niche". Every Black person in America, presumably, could get what he was talking about, and was interested in the guests on his show. Which at the time, might have just been a special time in Black Pop Culture - when the white audience wasn't nearly as "participatory"....for lack of a better term.
On the other hand, Trevor Noah and Wayne Brady (and arguably Anthony Anderson) are "white mainstream" coded. The South African has more to say about the White Experience and more focus on it. Arsenio wasn't really trying to be an explainer. (On the other end we had cats like Bernie Mac, who really wasn't trying to talk to anybody but black people)
This is all subtle stuff that's almost too intangible to really talk about, prolly shoulda kept this post to myself tbh.
