Possibly for this reason.

Early in Will Smith's acting career, he said in a print interview that Denzel told him to "don't be kissing a man onscreen". In 6 Degrees of Separation, the script called for Will's character to kiss skinny dude from Weird Science.
I think he asked Denzel about it, and he relayed DW's advice in the interview.

That didn't stop or slow down Denzel's career at all. But since society has changed so much in the decades since, maybe he's trying to clean that up with this story.

Just tried to look it up and nothing of the like - as you described - popping up anywhere. In fact, all google results are of Ridley Scott saying it didn’t happen
