Mexican is a nationality

Hispanic/Latino is an ethnicity

Black / White are races

You can be a Black Mexican

In this case Mexican is the nationality, Black the "race" and Afro-Mexican the ethnicity

I'd say "Hispanic" and "Latino" are language families instead of ethnicities tbh, maybe people should consider this

Anyway /thread

Even that does not make sense, because if a Mexican looking guy grew up in Chicago, people would not refer to him as a American, most would call him a Mexican, but whatever I see people here get mad when they get confused and look dumb lol.

If the guy was born in America then that's his nationality, regardless of what he looks like. His ethnicity is "something-mexican" cause his folks are from there but his nationality is American.

So why is so ifva
So if a black dude grew up in Mexico he not black he's Mexican? Lol

"Ergo a second generation Afro-Mexican is both black and hispanic."

If he was born and raised in Mexico he is black, mexican, hispanic and latino.

Black because his ancestry dates to Africa, which should be physically apparent - the genetic factor.
Mexican because he was born in Mexico.
Hispanic because he was born and/or raised in country primarily colonized by Spaniards.
Latino because he was born and/or raised in latin America.

Nah I may be tweaking. But black people, or AA are a mix of cultures, most of us have European blood, and none of us are a majority African, . It doesn't make since from a common sense stand point. Shouldn't aa be different from Africans?

Hispanic is an ethnicity from a Spanish speaking area. Technically a lily white Euro from Spain ie Pau Gasol is Hispanic.Granted you probably won't find many Europeans from Spain who identify as Hispanic, they more than likely identify by their nationality.

Latino as an ethnicity that focuses more on geographical location(Latin America) instead of language. That's why a Brazilian ethnically is considered Latino because their native language is Portuguese.
