This has a lot to do with it.
His story was intriguing and it helped sell his music. We heard him doing what he does over and over again and eventually his music started to sound and feel boring. Ultimately he's boxed into a corner and isn't capable of reinventing himself. He's only still around because of how much money he made. He's still capable of making solid joints but if he stops making music today no one will be pressed about it because for the most part the thrill is gone.
