I was gonna come in and say this. It's the harsh truth. By "slept on", I assume the OP was speaking on the general public or casual rap fans that probably care way more about an image - the way a rapper looks and dresses - than mic skills. An example would be a dude like A$AP Rocky, who I think is kinda overrated (if I can use that as the opposite of slept on).

I fukks with him, and yeah, maybe his looks got something to do with it...but I think he is a basement artist. He dont have a true identity and his songs are pretty typical and basic when he tries to actually make a song. His best shyt is when he just spits. freestyle type lyricists tend to lack depth and thats how he is. He is not a complete artist or MC for that matter.

How did biggie achieve his success, then? I just think it's probably because he's just another mixtape rapper with nothing distinctively separating him from the rest of the jadakiss clones that have come out of NY over the years.
