He has a fanbase that has bought into him. They see him as representing "real." Anyone who was on a college campus during his rise knows this. The difference between him and Sean is that people like Sean but he never made the personal connection where people want to see him win. People feel they know who Cole is and what he represents. Selling albums these days is more about the fans buying into the actual person behind the music than just the music itself. Just the music will get you a certain amount of sales, but selling the person is what gets you the big numbers. He is that relatable cat for teenagers and people still in college, they see some of themselves in him. He's damn near Nas to my younger cousins.

A guy like Sean was never marketed properly. We never saw him marketed as the under dog from Detroit or anything that made you want to root for him. He was swagged out from day 1 and that will get you spins, but it won't get you sales these days. Cole has successfully become he always wanted to be, the new everyman rapper, the new old Kanye West.

J.Cole helped Miguel get on, really brehs?

You nikkas most have SELECTIVE-short term memories. Who dat flopped and forced the label to push his album back a full year. ALL I NEED IS YOU featuring MIGUEL helped spread Cole's mainstream appeal and created momentum for his debut album.

lol Miguel was a nobody back then. Cole already had buzz from that Warmup tape.

nikka, Sure Thing, Quicke > Who Dat

What planet are we living on brehs? Miguel is a pop artist and J.Cole first single was as bad the hometown Panthers. Please stop it with this revisionist bull shyt

Remember the Who dat/Work Out blunder which resulted in album delays and the repositioning of cole with Miguel on ALL I WANT IS YOU?

He dropped a simp anthem single that feature MIGUEL and his album was released on the same day as Kanye West which resulted in Cole and eating good. He would've done Wale numbers had he dropped the album the following week

All I want is you came out in May 2010 (J Cole single)
Who Dat came out in May 2010 (J Cole single)

Miguels debut album came out in Nove 2010 and was called "All I Want Is You" trying to capitalize off the J Cole single

Sure Thing came out in January 2011
Quicke came out in Aug 2011

I don't like J cole and actually enjoy Miguels music. J Cole put Miguel on. J Cole's last album sold more than Miguels. I have no angle or agenda to gain by revisioning this.

Sure thing came out in 2010 and Quicke dropped in 2011 breh.. His album dropped before J.Cole's debut. I'm just stating facts, Cole didn't put Miguel on in any kind of way

Sure Thing came out as a single in 2011. Neither of those singles or albums predate "All I Want Is You" or The Warmup or Who Dat. J Cole has sold more than Miguel. Not sure what yo are missing in this equation.
