One has an institute at Harvard University named after him, the other doesn't.

Nas is terrible at making songs with Mass appeal, aside from the singles on IWW, his attempts at commercial tracks are just :mjlol:

And Jay is a master at adapting to whatever is hot at the moment, keeping himself relevant. Nas just does Nas for the most part.

This is the biggest myth about Nas ever. People who say this have no idea that songs like "You Owe Me" and "I Can" are some of Nas's biggest singles. The difference between Jay Z and Nas is that Nas never really had an album that played like a Greatest Hits. His albums were more like "Best ofs". Nas never had an album full of big hits and back to back potential commercial smashes. That's the key difference between him and Jay. Jay's albums have multiple songs on them that are either smash hits or potential smash hits. Nas's albums don't. They have different approaches to making albums. There's songs on Nas albums that he wanted as singles, but were never singles ("You Won't See Me Tonight", "Hustlers").

Too many comments in here about music.

Jay's legacy is his success. His money. Plus the music. He's the Tiger Woods of this.

Got in the game indie.

Dropped great music.

Got buzz in his city.

Dropped great DVD.

Found mainstream success.

5X Plat. Takes the suburbs to the hood.

Biggest rap tour ever at the time.

Drops a street album

Puts UGK on to the mainstream with a huge hit.

Does other ventures.

80 mil. In like 18 months.

Drops a crew album.

GOAT intro and introduction to Ye and Just

Blueprint. Classic.

Blueprint 2. Swagtastic.

Gets the baddest chick in the game.

Retires after another classic, TBA.

GOAT retirement concert .

Becomes Def Jam president.

New rappers referring to him as President.

Etc...

There are just as many accomplishments in his later career as well.

Dude's a beast.

Jay networked with more major people including people Nas worked with. Whereas Nas shunned a lot of things offered to him for his reason.

But I would say now even without dropping an album Nas legacy seems to be getting better and better. Now everytime a young rapper drops he is compared to nas (Kendrick and Cole) and we see how much media love he got for his Illmatic album

So I would say both dudes legacy are great. Everyone mentions Jay and Nas and its less of a disparity

Like others have said, you see Nas albums and Nas himself ranked on best of all time albums, you see the Harvard Scholarship, the documentary etc
