We are quoting HIP HOP WIRED now as some official source instead of just some stupid rap blog that decided to make a list? Stop it, you are playing yourself.

He's ITALIAN and CATHOLIC. Iovine is an ITALIAN name.

"But the Jewish connection to reggae is very deep. Bob Marley, reggae's first major figure, recorded on a label called Island Records, established by a Jewish guy named Jimmy Iovine."

You can google Jimmy Iovine Jewish all you want but Iovine is an Italian name, hes catholic.

Here is it from HIS OWN MOUTH

As a parent--not as a chairman of Interscope or president of Farm Club--does the state of the culture worry you in any respect?

Well, no more than it worried my mother and my father, who were Italian and lived in Brooklyn. My father was a longshoreman. . . . It worried them when I wanted to go to the Village to see Sly and the Family Stone or the Doors. They were scared stiff; they didn't relate to it. They didn't know what to do with it. I don't know how other people feel, but the more they put it down, the more I stood up. It's a bit like fishing. You have to let the line out occasionally on your kids, or else they're going to snap it, right? They'll break the line on it. And to be very frank with you, it is really not different. They could say it was it was a better America in 1950 or a better America in 1960 and it was lousy in the 1970s. I don't think every home is perfect. So you have to really navigate your kids and navigate with them.

You can go back to talking about things you don't know about, don't let me stop you.

Jimmy Iovine's machine is partially responsible for the legacies of Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, Dr. Dre

Be real, talk all the independent cliches you want, but would you not want this guy handling your music? :usure:

How did he get started? Did he discover some bands way back when? Was he a producer himself?

I'd like some Coli A&Rs to drop gems :lupe:

Nikkas call everybody industry plants. People were calling Wiz Khalifa a plant when I distinctly remember seeing the "Youngin on His Grind" video about seven years ago on Youtube and thinking "there's black people in Pittsburgh?" :ehh:

MODS WE NEED AN OFFICIAL "MUSIC INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE" THREAD... STICKIED TO THE TOP OF RAP BOARD

it's like SOOOOOOOOOME of you guys know absolutely dikk about this industry you say you know so much about.. don't even know the basic things

i'm not talking about those who ASK.. that's another good reason for the thread.. i'm talking about those just talking out their ass about the industry

Jimmy Iovine is big cause he has big artists he produced and made hits with... that gives you power over everything else... puff, jay, any artist, most execs, companies whatever

so lets address some things

how can he blackball you??? first off as an artist, you are a fukking PAWN... you don't own shyt, and they can make another you in 10 seconds..

you're on his label, you're automatically fukked.. he owns your rights.. you piss him off by saying something like "fukk jimmy" like 50 did........ don't matter if you sold 100 million albums.. he's not signing your paperwork to put your album out. he's not signing the paperwork to LET you do features (yes that's in a standard contract).. he's not signing off to even give your ass a budget to be able to afford 1 damn beat... you do it yourself and leak it... he can sue you.. cause he owns the rights to ANY AND ALL music you record (another standard industry practice).

so you dead in the water.. and he's not puff.. he gives no fukks if you diss him in public.. you still ain't getting out your deal cause you sign for albums, not years... so if he never signs off to release that 5th album you owe, then you'll never meet your quota of dropping 5 albums.. and you're career is stuck and over

you're not on his label.... you can do what you want... but he has connects... so everyone in interscope will no longer get permission to work with you... that's just a start.. he calls his friends... "do me a favor and i'll give you 5 free lady gaga features for any artists you want... don't let anyone work with this guy" he shyts on you to all his friends now they don't want to work with you and won't let their artists work with you... he calls award shows... "you let that guy in the fukking building and i'll make sure none of my artists show up... but if you keep him out, i'll let em and gaga perform and present at your show and do a commercial"

and so on... he uses his 30 plus years and interscope power to shut you down.. oh you sold 1 million albums.. cool.. he has 10 artists (it's not just rap.. check his rock and roll credits.. interscope got country stars too) that will make that 1 million look like 10k...

now... how and why he can make anyone a star.........

money and favors... same as the last two reasons....

if he loves you personally.. like say he believes in you or just likes you as a person and wants to see you win.........

he's gonna give you a bigger budget... whoever said you can't make hits is a fukking idiot... you hear a song you HATE on the radio 500 times and you gonna sing that shyt regardless.. not only that... but it was just played 500.. they track that shyt, that puts it higher on the charts.. so the ads drop.. again, you got a bigger budget so instead of 4 am bet ads.. you getting monday night football ads.. not 1, but 5.. and they don't say "new hit", they say "#1 song in the country" people get curious, wanna know why it's #1... he uses his power to get you bigger interviews.. you get better producers... better videos... you get your songs on video games.. you get them in movies... you get nominations for awards (submitted by your label).. you get more more more more more

now why don't they do that for everybody??? cause you lose fukking money... you giving a guy a million dollar push, you know good and well you not getting all that money back. you really just did it cause you fukk with him... cause you know if you blow him up, you actually believe he can come back and be a star for 20 years... so even if his album don't sell 5 million.. you know you just made a star who will at least go plat on his next 6 albums... and you own him for those 6 albums, so fukk it.. plus with the 360, you still get paid off every feature and show and tshirt.. and he selling a lot of these cause he's a superstar on the cover of GQ that you paid for in money or favors

while some bum nikka with 1 hot song might not get that push... cause you know he won't last.. so you'll let him make you a couple dollars pushing singles and then short change his album budget... you'll still lose money but maybe 70k instead of 700k.. and you made it all back on selling his 99 cent single that went plat, all while he only got 2 cents off every single sold. you just made money off him and his 360 deal you got him to sign.. and now he's stuck with you for 6 albums.. which you NEVER gonna release... so he there forever... in the meantime you don't blackball him.. you just shelf him... so if god shines light on this guy with another banger in 10 years... well guess what, you still own him... if he never does... well fukk it... you getting paid off his shows and t-shirts and features and anything else he does anyway

this is the industry y'all... these are the games they play.. they will NEVER tell you this... they will send dimes to pick you up from the airport.. in the g5 they sent for you... pick you up in the lambo... suck your dikk all the way there... have the best weed for you... sit you down... have jimmy tell you how HE is on your dikk... and then hype you up.....

you sign the papers... and find out it was all a dream they sold you.. jimmy won't answer your calls.. your a&r is 23 fresh out of harvard.. and you doing shows at clubs that's smaller than jimmy's garage

then you don't sell 500k like you was supposed to... welcome to the shelf fella

or did you think ALL these rappers were just lying when they realize the truth and go off on their label... they fell for the dream and got mad when they realized it

The underlined isn't true, those artists that get that push are always recouping significantly. Those are the artists that make-up for all the other artist who don't get that push because it wouldn't be economically viable, and the artists who are tax-write offs and in developmental purgatory

The bolded is the releasest sh!t ever
