Materialism isn't bad....as its the sole reason we got this far as a species. The "I wants" turn into goals, which turn into achievements. Just take science for example, that phone in your hand/pocket, is due to someone wanting both a fortune, and to change the world. There's nothing wrong with wanting things. We're human, on our best days, we're apes who collect rocks from caves and wear them around our necks.

If we oversimplify everything, nihilism sets in, an unhealthy amount of nihilism.

Greed is indeed good, it got us here. Now being a broke dummy, is a different story, having an abundance of money and buying an expensive painting, i different than putting everything on credit cards and having check bounce, is stupidity.

Out of curiosity why is it really viewed as bad? Do we not suppose to like things or pretend we don't in fear of people criticizing what we do with ONES money in which ONE made...... A dude I know have me a perfect explanation, why even make money if you not going to do what you want with it? What the point of making money and being miserable because you scared to live the life you want?

Hedonistic philosophy
Trade the best years of your life for meaningless trinkets... Most don't even have time to enjoy their lives just constantly working. If that motivates you then go ahead but once you snap out if that mentality it's hard to go back.

You are suggesting that people actually get to enjoy their money but most are just keeping up appearances...:mjlol:

In my city most home owners now average spending 70% of their income on their homes alone so when is this enjoyment happening? People are house poor and the things they are supposed to own own them.

Perspective is key. In reality you want a mix of time freedom and a decent income to enjoy life. Free time... You can't buy that, you make it. By the end of next year I'll be living in a place where my standard of living will be high and cost of living very low. So I have the TIME to do the things I want instead of trading time for money and not having time to enjoy it :mjlol:

Some materialistic people tend to lack other qualities that can balance them out. It can lead to stubbornness and possibly selfishness.

People begin to lose real understanding as to why you use a certain item or what place an item has in your life. I feel like it leads to abuse.

Simple, materialism breeds envy and greed. Neither are helpful when you don't have priorities in line.

My opinion

If your a single man and woman with no kids and no wife and u make a decent living by all means spend your money how u want..even if u have a family and both u and your wife making a combined 100k a year live how u want to a point..

Now if your broke married, kids, on welfare, section 8, EBT, living in a housing project and making poverty level wages then materialistic shyt shouldn't be on your radar..

True but I think we just living in a world where certain things are becoming necessary. Maybe I should have been more specific on what I meant but I was mainly talking about minor materialism, buying a 150k car when you only make 80k is never a smart move, same with homes. And as for people letting things own them that they should own, I really don't think it's like that, I think people are just using certain things to express themselves cars, clothes, trinkets, etc

Of course materialism is bad you fukking retards.

Because you’re putting too much value into things instead of people and connections and experience, which is what drives true happiness and satisfaction in life according to every fukkin study ever.

Jesus Christ. Who raised you people?
